Tricon Steel & Alloys is a well-known supplier and manufacturer of AISI 4130/4140 Bars, renowned across diverse industries for their exceptional performance. From the rigours of chemical processing and petrochemicals to the exacting standards of pharmaceuticals and beyond, these bars exemplify unparalleled reliability and resilience in pivotal applications.
AISI 4130 and 4140 are chromoly (chromium-molybdenum) steel bars renowned for their exceptional strength, toughness, and versatility. AISI 4130 is a low-alloy steel containing chromium and molybdenum, while AISI 4140 contains additional carbon, enhancing its hardness and wear resistance. These bars exhibit remarkable properties, making them highly sought after across various industries.
One of the prominent features of AISI 4130 bars is their excellent strength-to-weight ratio, making them ideal for applications requiring high strength without adding excessive weight. Their exceptional toughness and impact resistance make them suitable for critical components subjected to dynamic loading conditions, such as aircraft structural parts, automotive components, and heavy machinery.
AISI 4130 bars find extensive use in aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, construction, and manufacturing industries. In aerospace, they are employed in aircraft structural components, landing gear, and engine parts due to their lightweight and high-strength characteristics. In the automotive sector, they are used to manufacture crankshafts, gears, and suspension components to withstand high stress and fatigue conditions. Moreover, in the oil and gas industry, these bars are employed in drill collars, downhole tools, and shafts for their excellent performance in corrosive environments and high-pressure applications.
AISI 4140 bars are tested to ensure compliance with industry standards and specific application requirements. Common tests include tensile testing to assess mechanical properties such as yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and elongation. Hardness testing is performed to evaluate the hardness of the material, which is crucial for determining its resistance to wear and abrasion. Additionally, non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle inspection are employed to detect internal flaws and ensure the integrity of the bars.

Melting
The first step in the process is melting raw materials in an electric furnace. These raw materials are typically iron ore, chromium, nickel, and other elements in exact amounts.
Hot Rolling
After being heated, the billets are shaped into long, thin rods by going through a series of rolling mills. Because the metal is heated above its recrystallization temperature during this operation, it is known as hot rolling.
Pickling
The pickling process is used to the bars in order to eliminate any oxide, scale, or other surface contaminants. Usually, an acid solution is used for this.
Cutting
Lastly, shearing machines or other cutting techniques are used to cut the rods to the required length.
