What is Stainless Steel 316 / 316L / 316H?
Stainless Steel 316, 316L, and 316H Bars are members of the renowned 300 series, distinguished by their exceptional corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength. These bars are forged from an alloy composed mainly of iron, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, creating a robust material that thrives in harsh environments.
Table Of Content
Features of SS 316 Bars:
Stainless Steel 316 Bars stand out for their remarkable features, making them a preferred choice across industries. Their corrosion resistance, especially in aggressive environments, is exceptional. Additionally, SS 316 Bars offer superb weldability and formability, allowing for versatile applications. The inclusion of molybdenum enhances their resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
Features of SS 316L Bars:
SS 316L Bars share similarities with SS 316 but are distinguished by their lower carbon content. This modification results in improved weldability, as lower carbon reduces the risk of sensitization and subsequent corrosion. Stainless Steel 316L Bars are ideal for applications requiring extensive welding or exposure to high-temperature conditions.
Features of SS 316H Bars:
Stainless Steel 316H Bars are heat-resistant variants of the 316 series, designed for elevated temperature applications. With a higher carbon content, these bars exhibit superior strength at high temperatures, making them suitable for challenging industrial environments. The enhanced tensile strength and creep resistance of SS 316H Bars set them apart in applications involving sustained high temperatures.
Sizes of SS 316/316L/316H Bars:
SS 316, 316L, and 316H Bars are fabricated in a range of sizes to accommodate different requirements. Whether it's a small-scale project or a large industrial application, the availability of various sizes ensures flexibility in design and construction.

Melting
The first step in the process is melting raw materials in an electric furnace. These raw materials are typically iron ore, chromium, nickel, and other elements in exact amounts.
Hot Rolling
After being heated, the billets are shaped into long, thin rods by going through a series of rolling mills. Because the metal is heated above its recrystallization temperature during this operation, it is known as hot rolling.
Pickling
The pickling process is used to the bars in order to eliminate any oxide, scale, or other surface contaminants. Usually, an acid solution is used for this.
Cutting
Lastly, shearing machines or other cutting techniques are used to cut the rods to the required length.
